BFGoodrich: How It All Began?
In 1870, Dr. Benjamin Franklin Goodrich founded a rubber factory in Akron, Ohio, USA. Initially, the factory produced bicycle tires and then car tires, which needed to withstand the speed and load of the developing automobile. This led Benjamin Franklin's son, Charles Goodrich, to establish the first tire research center in the United States. BFGoodrich soon found another way to work with mobility and quickly ventured into the rapidly growing aviation industry. This gave the challenge-oriented brand new ways to push boundaries:
– The brand participated in a 75 km/h speed record set in 1909 at the first international air race in Reims with Curtiss Aeroplane Corporation's plane.
– In the 1920s, the brand was given the opportunity to tackle a challenge previously considered impossible. In 1927, BFGoodrich supplied the tires for the Spirit of St. Louis airplane, with which Charles Lindbergh made the first non-stop transatlantic flight in history.
Throughout our history, we have never shied away from challenges. And we never intend to. Below is a look at some significant challenges BFGoodrich has overcome during its eventful history.
